Tunnel Vision

“The true story of my probably insane quest to become a professional surfer”

Tunnel Vision.

Tunnel Vision is the title of my first book about a year competing on a professional surfing tour in 2006. Given that I’m not an exception surfer, the whole premise of this adventure was slightly ludicrous. I finished the year ranked 567th from the 800 surfers on the tour, which is not that bad considering that I missed more flights than I can remember, had all of my belongings stolen in France, was jailed in Brazil, nearly eaten by a shark in South Africa, and almost drowned in Indonesia and Hawaii.

Oddly enough, my little travel jaunt on the pro surfing tour has only ever received positive reviews. It has been described by Brisbane’s Courier Mail as a “vicarious thrill”, Australian Surfing Life Magazine as “funny, witty and completely worth reading”, The Gold Coast Bulletin as a “delight to read whether you’re a surfing fan or have never tipped a toe in the ocean,” the Sydney Morning Herald a “hilarious surfing odyssey” and The New Zealand Herald as “very well written and highly entertaining.”

Saltwater Cowboy

This year I plan to write a book about competing on a pro bull riding tour in America.   Considering that I learnt to ride a horse only 4 months ago, this is a spectacularly absurd idea.  If I make it back in one piece, however, I think it will offer a fascinating insight into a remarkable sub-culture.  The book will be called Saltwater Cowboy, and should be released in early 2011.
